Northumberland is rich in its history of bygone years, full of
vitality, for this is the surviving heartland of an ancient kingdom. In
the golden age of Northumbria, great saints and kings strode the
splendid stage of Holy Island and Royal Bamburgh, figures through times
own mist that became legends.
My feeling for such historical areas is to capture on film the
grandeur of such places. Alnwick Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrian's
Wall, only to name but a few, are the inspiration that stirs me on, all
needing quite a different photographic approach, when comparing it with
wildlife.
It's becoming more difficult to capture the loneliness of many of
these areas, as more visitors come to these historical places. Bamburgh
Castle, could once be photographed with its lonely beach and headland,
but not any more, as joggers, walkers, and fun loving people take
command of what was once a quiet coastline. I always make a point to
photograph many of these well known places during the colder months of
winter, when there are fewer visitors.
