The interest in birds is more popular than any other species of the
living world. They are more numerous and widespread, and for most of
us, far easier to see than photograph. Birds are beautiful and
fascinating creatures that contribute so much to the enrichment of our
lives. They can be found in every conceivable habitat whether it's the
lonely fells of a barren landscape, or a back garden in the busiest
city; they are there scratching a living.
I find photographing the natural world has always been a
challenge, there's no doubt the standard of work is much higher
today, than ever before, because of the sophisticated equipment that is
available.
Bird photography is never easy, unless you are working with a sea
bird colony; they are continuously moving especially the smaller
species; even with the fastest auto focus system, you are struggling to
keep them sharp in the frame.
Most of my work is done from a hide or alternatively a four track
vehicle, using the ever familiar bean bag, but this time filled with
wheat from the farm.
More often than not, I always prefer building a set with a
feeding station to attract the wildlife, this way you have greater
control. Yes, it involves more work, but at the end of the day is more
rewarding. |
