I have had the great privilege in photographing wildlife all over the
world, from the Sub Antarctic Islands of the Falklands, to the Northern
Hemisphere in Alaska; the dry and arid areas of Africa, to the tropical
rain forest of Costa Rica, all of them, were a memorable experience in
many ways.
One of the advantages when working abroad, is on most occasions,
the wildlife is comparatively tame. I will never forget the Falkland
Islands, when a bird of prey flew to within two metres of where I was
sitting, and looked me straight in the eye, reminding me that I was the
intruder, which was quite rightly so. The bird in question was a
Striated Cara Cara, known to the Islanders as Johnny Rook.
But the fascination when abroad, is the almost endless wealth
of wildlife especially in Central America. Here the vivid colours of
the birds is a sight to remember, from the Scarlet Macaws to the
beautiful Humming Birds, a twitchers paradise where every life zone has
its own speciality.
